New Host

I am switching to a new host (again), Martin has kindly offered me to host this site on his Dreamhost account. Since dreamhost supports both ssh access, subversion repositories and a lot of other goodies I am quite happy with this switch.
Thanks Martin ;)

First Water Polo Match

I just had my first water polo match, we played four periods against Lystrup. For the third and fourth periods I joined the Lystrup team since some of their players had to go early. I played the entire fourth period without substitution, that was rough :). I am now very tired, so I am going to hit the sack. The game went all right, a score was not kept, but I think my club (A.S.S.) did okay.

Upgrading To Ubuntu Edgy Eft

Yesterday I did a search and replace on my Ubunty systems /etc/apt/sources.list, replacing “dapper” with “edgy”. Following a download of 300megs and a series of apt-get commands to force stuff like the new firefox into place, I was able to boot the system again. So far I really like the Edgy Eft, the theme has been polished and all sorts of great applications are now updated to their newest, and in some case unreleased. I am now running Firefox 2.0 bon echo, Evolution 2.8, Gnome 2.6 and gaim 2.0beta3.1. For more information about the Edgy Eft see this writeup.

New Camera

Hanging Rock State ParkI finally bought a camera, the Canon SD700 IS (AKA IXUS 800 IS). I am very satisfied with the camera, it has an excellent build quality and good image quality. The camera even worked out of the box with GPhoto and GTHUMB. Right now I am trying to decide if I should stick with F-Spot or switch to the WINE powered Google Picasa for GNU/Linux.
The picture was taken yesterday at Hanging Rock State Park and has been cropped and resized in The GIMP.

Kazaa And The Record Industry

I have heard rumors that some of the packets containting an “illegal” sequence of zeros and ones that has been sent between kazaa peers have been routed through routers and switches made by Cisco, D-Link, HP and many others and ethernet cable produces by many other different companies. I wonder when the record industry will sue and settle with these companies?

Actually, I saw a guy speeding on the high way once, I’d better sue the guys making asphalt. They should totally create a form of asphalt that automatically detects speeding and drunk drivers and notifies local police.
