Climbing

Safely on the groundToday I went climbing at DGI-Huset in central Århus with Jesper who invited me to come along. After an introduction to the gear we teamed up and started climbing. Hanging many meters above the ground and trusting the guy on the ground holding the other end of the robe to lower you safely to the ground is a great experience. Being the guy on the ground responsible for the safety off the climber is also quite thrilling. Climbing in itself was funny and great exercise for the arms and legs, I hope to go again sometime soon. Do you want to join me and try it out? The facilities at DGI-Huset were great, and they have the tallest indoor climbing wall in Denmark.

Mars Trilogy

Red Mars, book coverI recently finished reading the Mars trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson. The trilogy, consisting of the books Red Mars, Green Mars and Blue Mars takes place primarily on Mars (d’oh) and describes the development of a community on Mars. Starting with the early settlers, primarily scientists, the books describe the political, ethical and practical problems faced when terraforming (or not?) an entire planet and building a new community consisting on people from all the countries of the world in a world where giant corporations have more power than the sorry remains of a U.N. unable to make and enforce policy.

While reading the books I was very impressed with the fact that Mr. Robinson seems to be fluent in biology, geology, physics, psychology and economics. The books seems to be a very well researched. Long passages describe discussions and thoughts the characters have on one or several of these topics, at times this was even a bit excessive and tiring. Overall the books very very enjoyable, science fiction books providing food for thought on the societies of the future – but they are not easy read action books.

Guess Who’s Back Too

I am back too.

Airport, Puerto Rico

I spend the past week at Morasol Suites in Puerto Rico on Gran Canaria. The hotel was amazing with some beautifully designed and lit rooms and the weather was great too with temperatures in the mid thirties centrigrade. Mikoline and I was joined on the trip by my mom and dad (happy anniversary) and my sister and her friend, Here is a picture of everyone shortly before a long hike up two a shopping center which turned out to be rather disappointing:
