Bah

Not much has come to pass since the last update. My plans to run Copenhagen Marathon with Rune are dangerously close to collapsing, sadly. I have developed some sort of injury in my right knee which shows even when I walk on ordinary stairs. I am looking forward to the judgement of the doctor, in the worst case it could be a permanent injury.

In other news, the company “3″ which is licensed by the government to use the ned “3G” (successor to GSM) network, is selling extremely cheap Motorola phones these days. I almost bought one today during the lunch break, but I might buy one tomorrow – I am still considering whether I really need it or not.

VBO’s

The meshes in the scenegraph are now moved to VBO’s. It did not raise the framerate when rendering a typical Quake3 level that much, but there is still room for experimenting with the number of VBO’s and how they are used.

Vacation

This week has been free of lectures for me, as will the next, giving me some time to relax and work no my engine. I have added a text renderer for the OpenGL backend which enables me to (finally) have a FPS counter. Support for interleaved vertex data for mesh objects was also added and I started preparing the mesh objects for use with the all-so-popular VBO’s for OpenGL. I’m thinking of compiling the scenegraph at load time into some intermediate format before rendering, where all the static meshes is moved to a vertex buffer local to the GPU. I am still considering how to do it without breaking API independence. At work the integration of our new cluster is moving along nicely, I am looking forward to playing with it, vrJuggler takes some getting used to.

In other – not so geeky – news, I have spent my weekend relaxing with my girlfriend, and enjoying my newest toy, an iRiver 380 portable Ogg Vorbis player with radio and mp3 support aswell :). I have also been ordered to use Microsoft Messenger by my girlfriend. So if you want to say hi, you can reach me there with the email address tho_i_hate_spam_ooms@bananus.dk

Running

Phew, Rune and I ran a half-marathon today, so I’m rather tired. We took a nice route round a lake here in the city (Brabrand Sø). In other news this site can now be reached at my two newly acquired domains: moelhave.dk and mølhave.dk. Users of the IE family of browser will not be able to use the last one since it uses IDN for dealing with the danish character ‘ø’, a feature which IE does not support.

If you live in, or around, the city of Ã…rhus, Denmark, and are interested in game development I encourage you to attend the IGDA bar meeting at Waxies this thursday, I am arranging it with Gorm Lai and it will hopefully be a blast.
