Linear Algebra Exams Done

Did a some minor updates to the site, most noticable I moved some of the news onto one of the “older news” pages this should make it more friendly to view on older computers.

Today I’m fine except for a minor headache, together with a friend I was out celebrating that the linear algrebra exams are well over with, and such celebrations tend to get very wet :) Anyways, I’ve started reading a bit for my next and last exam this semester which is about the basics of the java programming language, when I’m done with that exam (the 15th of january) I have the rest of the month off and plenty of time to do some coding :). Right now I’m waiting for the java SDK to download so I can start coding some java (I still don’t like that language, well, there’s nothing wrong with the language itself, but I don’t like the fact that a single company owns it, and besides, it’s just soo slow).

Linear Algebra

So, it took my linear algebra exam today and I passed, and I even think I did pretty well, I had to prove that a hermitian matrix is similar to a diagonal matrix and that the similarity can be achieved using unitary matrices. I didn’t get a grade though since it was a pass/nopass exam. Anyways, I’ve now resumed coding in my various projects and it’s nice not to be worried about the fact that I should be studying.:)

Studying and Hardware

I’m kinda tired right now, the time is a couple of hours past midnight and I’ve been studying for my linear algebra exam for quite some time now. I’ll go the the exam on wednsday and after that I’ll go completely berserk in bars around Ã…rhus that’s for sure it’s not that’s it’s an extremely importan exam or anything (it’s as important as all the others :) ) but I just need to let some steam out after sitting here confined in the dorm for far too long.

Shopping for a new computer is also something I plan to do when I’ve done with my exams, the big question is what I should buy. I’ve not been following the hardware development at all (well, except for gfx cards) in the last couple of years so I have a lot of reading to do. I’m thinking of getting one of those Athlon XP1800+ cpu’s, they should do quite well compared to the p4 2ghz. I also need a new motherboard, a cabinet and some RAM.

when I’ve assembled the new system I’ll put this old 300mHz up in my closet, hook it to the net and use it as a web/mail server. I’ve always wanted to host my own site and email stuff and I can do that now. I can get a static IP from the newtwork here at the dorm and I can even get a hostname so you’ll be able to reach my computer as SOMETHING.skjodlhoej.dk now I just have to figure out what the “something” part should be, I’m thinking of thoooms.skjoldhoej.dk, codito.skjoldhoej.dk, gfx.skjoldhoej.dk and such things, any ideas?

Well, I think I’ll go to bed now as I’ve got nothing interesting to say at all, laters..

DISCLAIMER: As I'm rather tired right now the text above is prone to contain even more typos, mispellings and overall nonsense than my other posts :)

The Party Report

Happy newyear folks. I was at The Party after christmas and as always I had loads of fun. I went there with Martin (gimpster) and paaske. We sat way in front so we didn’t even have to move to see the bigscreen, that was cool. Another benefit of sitting upfront is that you don’t have to sit besides gamers (lamers that is). We sat next to guy who knew a great deal about the scene so we had some funny talks :) (hi aske!).

The main reason as to why the party rocked for me was the company and the fact that there was some neat productions (you should really see the winning c64 entry) but the overall spirit was not very good and there simply were too many gamers in hal1. They even showed the cs/q3 finals on the bigscreen. I read a review by sobec^skp over at slengpung and according to that there even were some problems with the demolab aswell. If you plan to see some of the productions I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the position they got in the compos since namevoting were quite of a problem. Farb-rausch even donated half of their price money to another group simply because they thougt their demo was better. And hybris/NEMESIS got second in the demo compo with a entry made only because one of the members failed to deliver his mp3 in the mp3 competition. Agreed, the music is very funny but still, it uses copyrighted material (he used the tune from Afromans “’cause I got high”) and the gfx wasn’t even there. Atleast they also admitted that at the price giving ceremony, well, it wasn’t their fault anyways.

Oh and if’ve ever thought of learning OpenGL but never really actually started it, take a look at martin’s site I gave him a very short OpenGL crash course at the last night of the party and yet he has managed to write a neat little app showing a cube with rounded corners. Ok, alot of it may be math-related but still, there’s light and everything.

Well, I’m very busy these days since I have a linear algebra exam on wednsday so I’ll stop writing now so I can get some work done (actually I’ll make some dinner first).
